ADVANCED SEARCH

By clicking ADVANCED SEARCH in the blue highlighted menu in the upper right part of the screen a search screen opens which offers more detailed search options.

The following search options are available:

Keyword
When conducting a keyword search the most important fields which describe a document are searched: author, title, series, subject headings and notes.

You can enter up to 3 search terms in any kind of sequence.

Beginning of title
This search represents a search in the title list. One enters the exact wording of a title.

Subject headings
This search is of a more thematically orientated nature as the search is confined to terms which were chosen to describe the content of a document.

In addition it is possible to consult the archive of all subject headings being used by the library. In order to open the archive one has to enter at least the first 3 letters of the search term and then click on the LIST button situated to the right of the search field. The single entries are linked to the respective documents. This allows starting a subject search by simply clicking on an entry.

Author
This search corresponds to a personal author or corporate author (i.e. an institution) search. Personal names have to be entered has follows: surname first name.
In addition it is possible to consult the archive of all authors listed in the catalogue. In order to open the archive one has to enter at least the first 3 letters of the search term and then click on the LIST button situated to the right of the search field. The single entries are linked to the respective documents. This allows starting an author search by simply clicking on an entry.

Year
This option allows limiting the search to documents published within a certain period of time.
N.B. this search only works in combination with at least one additional search term.

ISBN / ISSN
This field allows searching for documents entering their International Standard Book Number and the International Standard Serial Number.

Classification
Using this field allows searching for subject areas which are assigned to every document within the library. The subject areas are represented through alphanumerical codes, e.g.
QP 300 = corporate management, DD 1000 = educational history.

Shelf mark
By choosing the field Shelf-Mark from the drop-down-menu situated in the lower left corner of the search screen one can enter the exact alphanumerical code which identifies the location of the document in the library and which can be found on the labels on the book spines.

Publisher
By choosing the field Publisher from the drop-down-menu situated in the lower left corner of the search screen one can search for the publisher of a document. N.B. this search only works in combination with at least one additional search term.

Branch
This option allows limiting the search to documents available at a particular branch of the library (Bozen/Bolzano, Brixen/Bressanone, etc.).

Type of medium
This option allows limiting the search to documents available in a preferred physical format, e.g. book, journal, etc.

Show thesis
By checking the Show thesis box it is possible to expand the search including the final assignments which are consigned by the students of the Free University Bozen/Bolzano. When searching for thesis the following search field may be utilized: keyword (this search includes a search for subject headings), title and author (here you may search after the names of students or supervisors and for degree courses).
